GAUSS UTM Workshop 2018

Date: 18/10/2018

The workshop took place at Cranfield Univeristy (CU) premises and it gathered relevant European actors in the fields of drone air traffic management and regulation, as well as air navigation service providers (ANSPs), the industry and research centres; including representatives from the European GNSS Agency (GSA), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), EUROCONTROL, European Satellite Services Provider (ESSP), Spanish ANSP (ENAIRE) and civil aviation authorities from Spain (DGAC), France (DGAC) and Greece (HCAA).

GAUSS’ UTM ConOps to assess Galileo and EGNOS in real U-Space environments were presented and relevant feedback was gathered.

In the words of Marta Krywanis-Brzostowska, Project Officer in the GSA, this workshop gave the great opportunity to discuss the EGNSS benefits for drones. As highlighted by participants,  GNSS is essential for safe and reliable navigation of drones. Drones market is booming and future drone-based applications will face more demanding requirements in terms of integrity and accuracy. Here Galileo and EGNOS can contribute answering to those requirements, e.g. SBAS will cover the more demanding requirements in terms of robust navigation, continuity, accuracy and availability; inclusion of Galileo in the multi-constellation concept and integration with other sensors (e.g. inertial, vision) will significantly improve the accuracy, availability, continuity and reliability of positioning/navigation of drones; Galileo authentication can contribute minimizing the risk of threats.

GAUSS 2nd Workshop

Date: 13/05/2019

everis aerospace and defense (EVADS) hosted this workshop in Madrid where the consolidated GAUSS scenarios and requirements were presented together with the progress in GAUSS positioning system (WP3) and EGNSS signal integrity and security (WP4), the UTM technologies (WP5) to be applied in GAUSS were also presented.

The event gathered professionals of the drone sector (industry and regulators) including members of air navigation service providers (ANSPs), the European GNSS Agency (GSA), EUROCONTROL, European Satellite Services Provider (ESSP), civil aviation authorities from France (DGAC) and Greece (HCAA) and members of other European projects within the framework of U-Space (CORUS, TERRA and DREAMS).
